Frankincense essential oil, made from a tree that grows in southern Arabia, is a biblical scent associated with the Roman Catholic Church (often burned with myrrh in churches).
For that reason, the scent has a very ethereal effect on me (as is true for other people) because I associate it with religious rites.
2000 years ago, this essential oil was used to treat a majority of the health issues of that time.
Frankincense (also called Olibenum) is great to use externally. It makes an excellent astringent for the skin when mixed with water. I have also heard it works well on acne, but I haven’t tried that treatment.
The scent also relieves stress, calms the system and helps individuals to frame situations. It might not transform the situation, but it will help in gaining a more expansive, positive way of viewing our world.
That’s why I like to refer to frankincense as the oil that helps us “see the silver lining around the cloud!”
It’s been said that Frankincense eliminates cancer cells and immune stimulating. I not sure about using it alone, but it would probably be good to use along with more “traditional” treatment. Ask your doctor, but most doctors will probably say it won’t affect anything either way. You just want to make sure it doesn’t interact negatively if the person is taking any medication.
Now, with Young Living, the “Supplemental Facts” are supplied on the side of the bottle. This means it is ok to consume internally. Young Living oils are the highest quality you can get - they are unadulterated - unlike the perfume essential oils you can buy in the store.
Therefore, if you have frankincense essential oil that is NOT Young Living, DO NOT take it internally.
Julie Chertow mentioned it this way to me in an email she sent recently:
. . .if you are operating under the “English Model” of
Aromatherapy then you will be appalled at what I’m writing
here.
. .
. . . because the English model of Aromatherapy dictates to
never ingest an oil or use on the body neet (undiluted).
There is truth to that - because if you are using a “perfume
grade” essential oil (and many essential oils used under the
English Model of Aromatherapy are perfume grade) you would
not want to use on the body neet or ingest.
However, when we move into the use of therapeutic grade
essential oils (which you will find in the French and German
models of
Aromatherapy- and we lean towards those models in Young
Living) where there are no additives, fixatives, or
adulterations ~ then using the oils neet, or undiluted on
the body (with the exception of a few ‘hot’ oils), is not a
problem - and many of these oils can even be ingested.
You might be saying “Well, who says?” And I can say to you
“the FDA says!”
For example - look at a bottle of Young Living’s
Frankincense oil (which I’m going to show you on the video
how I take drops of this internally). You will see on the
label “Supplemental Facts”. This is the same Supplemental
Facts type of label that you will find on boxes and cans of
food in your grocery stores - mandated by the FDA!
And here’s the real tip - you KNOW that an essential oil is
extremely high quality and therapeutic grade if it has that
on the label (which is not to say that oils that don’t have
that are not therapeutic grade).
Additionally, frankincense is the aromatic resin of boswellia serrata which currently being used by a number of natropaths, acupuncturists and other alternative healers to help with arthritis, digestive disorders, respiratory ailments and other joint diseases.
